Defense Ministry Signs 1700 Crore Deal With Bapl For Dual Role Brahmos Missiles

Indian Navy: In order to make the Navy more lethal, the Defense Ministry has decided to give the dual-role Brahmos missile. For this, an agreement of 1700 crores has been signed with BAPL, the company that manufactures BrahMos missiles.

Although the Ministry of Defense has not shared official information about how many additional BrahMos missiles it has decided to give to the Navy, but according to the information, 38 such surface-to-surface missiles have been signed. Of these, 35 are combat missiles and three (03) are for exercise.

On Thursday, the Defense Ministry issued a statement saying that a contract was signed with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the dual role surface-to-surface missile BrahMos. Providing further impetus to self-reliance in defense production, BAPL is on contract with BAPL for acquisition of additional surface-to-surface capable BrahMos missiles under the ‘Buy-Indian’ category at a total estimated cost of Rs 1700 crore, according to the statement. signed.

According to the Defense Ministry, this contract will further boost indigenous production of critical weapon systems and ammunition with the active participation of indigenous industry.

India has declared Brahmos as its Prime Strike Weapon, which is used by all three Army, Air Force and Navy. Amidst the ongoing conflict with China, the Indian Army has deployed Brahmos missile on the LAC from eastern Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. Along with this, Sukhoi fighter aircraft equipped with BrahMos missile are also stationed at the air-base close to the LAC. Recently Philippines has also signed an agreement to buy BrahMos missile from India.
