Gujarat Congress: Opposition Congress MLAs walked out of the Gujarat Assembly on Thursday after they were denied permission to discuss the spread of skin disease among cattle. After Congress MLA Paresh Dhanani finished the discussion on ‘short-term notice’ on the rising prices of edible oil, another senior party MLA Punja Vansh had requested for a discussion on the spread of skin disease in cattle. Since the matter was not listed for discussion today, Speaker Nimaben Acharya refused to allot time for it.

What is lumpy skin disease
It is caused by Lumpy Skin Disease (LSDV), which belongs to the genus Capripoxvirus. This virus is a part of the family Poxviridae (smallpox and monkeypox viruses are also part of the same family). It is not a zoonotic virus, which means that the disease cannot be transmitted to humans. It is an infectious vector-borne disease spread by vectors such as mosquitoes, some biting flies and ticks and usually affects animals such as cows and buffaloes. Thus, the disease can be spread either through direct contact with vectors or through contaminated feed and water.
