SDRF Said In Their Study That In Jammu Kashmir 127 People Died By Suicide After Corona ANN

Kashmir Suicide Cases: According to a study by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), 127 people died while 238 attempted suicide in the Kashmir Valley during the last 16 months. This study on mental health was done in 10 districts of Kashmir.

SDRF Commandant Haseeb ur Rehman while launching the mental health helpline ‘Sukoon’ said, “Between February 2021 to June 2022, 365 persons tried to commit suicide out of which 127 people died. 238 people committed suicide during this period. who were saved. He said that after the corona epidemic, mental health is a serious issue, in view of which a 24×7 ‘relaxation’ helpline has been started in which experts will talk to the victim.

Most suicides happened here
According to statistics, the maximum number of suicide attempts were made in the central Kashmir district of Budgam, in which 72 people lost their lives. Anantnag district has the highest number of 55 suicide attempts. None of the 17 people who took their lives in Srinagar could be saved. To counter this, the authorities had to start Aapda Mitras.

What is a disaster friend?
The State Disaster Response Force started disaster management training for the first batch of 50 people under the centrally sponsored scheme ‘Aapda Mitra Yojana’ at SDRF Headquarters to create a pool of trained volunteers in Srinagar. The 12 days training program for 50 people of the first batch was inaugurated by DMRRR Secretary Nazim Zia Khan.

Commandant SDRF Haseeb ur Rehman said that 600 Aapda-mitra volunteers from Baramulla, Kupwara and Kulgam will be trained in multiple batches as per the NDMA syllabus. He said that the main objective of this scheme is to train volunteers in disaster management so that their services can be utilized during any incident. In these, whether it is natural or man-made.
